PORTLAND FILM FESTIVAL PANEL
In addition to the World Premiere of Addicted to Life at Portland, we presented a panel with international experts in the field of Medical Aid-in Dying
TRAILBLAZERS: Death With Dignity Perspectives
The panel featured these world experts in the realm of end-of-life decision-making and legislation:
STEFANIE GREEN, MD: Dr. Green is a Canadian doctor. After more than 20 years in general medical practice including maternity and newborn care, and in conjunction with a change in federal law in Canada, Dr. Green began working in medical assistance in dying (MAiD) in June 2016. She is co-founder and President of the Canadian Association of MAiD Assessors and Providers (CAMAP). She is clinical faculty at the University of British Columbia and the University of Victoria. This is Assisted Dying, a memoir of her first year providing assisted dying in Canada, is her first book.
BARBARA COOMBS LEE: Barbara is an American activist, author of the Oregon Death with Dignity Act (1994), former family nurse practitioner and physician assistant, and president emerita/senior adviser of Compassion & Choices, a national non-profit organization dedicated to expanding and protecting the rights of the terminally ill.
DAN DIAZ: Advocate – End of Life Options. Dan is the husband of Brittany Maynard, the 29-year-old who died in November 2014 from a brain tumor. Their dramatic story electrified the American public when Brittany’s struggle was profiled on the cover of People Magazine. The couple moved from California to Oregon in order for Brittany to secure the option of a gentle dying process. When she died, there were only 4 states with the option of medical aid in dying. There are now 11. Dan continues to advocate across the country; keeping the promise he made to Brittany.
